Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 6 has received a rather modest upgrade over its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 5. Of course, it may have worked to improve some health tracking features. And he even managed to give the notebook a more streamlined design and at the same time extend the battery life. But it’s clear that Samsung was not aiming to reinvent the wheel here (and they usually don’t do that). It is also easy to understand why, if the last generation was already good enough.

In this year’s update, Samsung has focused its efforts on expanding its wellness-centric features. These include improved personalized sleep coaching and information, the ability to customize heart rate zone training during running sessions, improved GPS tracking tailored to track runners, additional adjustments in the training app, and the inclusion of irregular hearts Mack notifications, to name a few. The limitation, of course, is that the predecessors of the Watch 6 have access to all these updates that go back to the Watch 4. So, if you own one of the previous two models, you may not need to upgrade.

However, the modest improvements of the Galaxy Watch 6 allow it to keep up with the leaders in the field. For example, it can now stand side by side with Fitbit’s advanced sleep analysis features. The new heart health tools also give the watch the ECG monitoring capabilities of Apple and Pixel smartwatches. In the meantime, the improved running coaching brings it closer to the watches offered by Garmin.

The frameless mechanical edition of the Watch 6 costs 299 for the 40mm model, available in graphite and gold; the 43mm version, also available in silver, costs just over 329. It may lack the rotating bezel of the classic, but it has a digital bezel that allows you to scroll through your most used widgets, such as sleep, workout and weather, without having to rummage through a menu.

With the Watch 6, Samsung has also introduced a new design feature called one-click, which allows you to exchange bracelets with one click for your ever-changing style needs. Personally, I am a big fan of the graphite sports strap and the flush round dial, which gives the watch a slimmer feel.

The Watch 6 also has a more dynamic display with a higher resolution and a maximum brightness of up to 2,000 nits compared to the maximum 1,000 nits of the recent model. The screen is also 20% larger, which makes it easier to read the text. The always-on display (AOD) was using up the Watch 5’s battery life pretty quickly when our deputy editor Cherlynn Low checked it, but I didn’t have any similar issues when I was wearing the Watch 6 all day.

The Galaxy Watch 6 is equipped with a larger battery to support the larger and brighter display this year. Samsung claims that the watch should run up to 30 hours with the AOD turned on and up to 40 hours without AOD. This is ideal for busy people who want the guarantee that the watch will work after an eight-hour working day, before going to the gym and after again for sleep tracking. After using the watch for a day or two (mainly for training tracking), I was able to power the watch to about 80% or almost 80% in less than 30 minutes with the quick power function, adding at least eight extra hours of battery life each time. However, the battery life of a portable device tends to fluctuate depending on the scope of use.
